U.S. Jute And Jute-Like Fibers Import Price per Ton in July 2022

In July 2022, the jute and jute-like fibers price per ton stood at $2.5K (CIF, US), surging by 24% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 28% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $3.0K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to July 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was India ($5.7K per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($1.7K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

U.S. Jute And Jute-Like Fibers Import Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was jute and other textile bast fibres; processed but not spun, tow and waste of these fibres, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie) ($3.8K per ton), while the price for jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie amounted to $1.9K per ton.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by jute and other textile bast fibres; processed but not spun, tow and waste of these fibres, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie) (+11.2%).

U.S. Jute And Jute-Like Fibers Imports

In August 2022, imports of jute and jute-like fibers into the United States surged to 238 tons, jumping by 50% against the month before. Overall, imports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 86% against the previous month.

In value terms, jute and jute-like fibers imports soared to $572K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when imports increased by 47% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of $885K. From July 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

U.S. Jute And Jute-Like Fibers Imports by Type

In August 2022, jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie (179 tons) constituted the largest type of jute and jute-like fibers supplied to the United States, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, jute and other textile bast fibres; processed but not spun, tow and waste of these fibres, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie) (59 tons), threefold.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie amounted to +81.0%.

In value terms, jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie ($348K) and jute and other textile bast fibres; processed but not spun, tow and waste of these fibres, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie) ($223K) constituted the most imported types of jute and jute-like fibers in the United States.

U.S. Jute And Jute-Like Fibers Imports by Country

In July 2022, Bangladesh (119 tons) constituted the largest jute and jute-like fibers supplier to the United States, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, jute and jute-like fibers imports from Bangladesh exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (27 tons), fourfold.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Bangladesh amounted to +16.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: India (+69.0% per month) and Pakistan (-5.1% per month).

In value terms, the largest jute and jute-like fibers suppliers to the United States were Bangladesh ($199K), India ($156K) and Pakistan ($30K), with a combined 99% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +53.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
