China Lentil Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the lentil price stood at $976 per ton (CIF, China), remaining stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 36% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,064 per ton. From April 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,076 per ton), while the price for Myanmar ($666 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
China Lentil Imports
In September 2022, overseas purchases of lentils decreased by -36.3% to 918 tons, falling for the fourth consecutive month after two months of growth. In general, imports, however, recorded a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 with an increase of 215% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 6K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lentil imports declined rapidly to $897K (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when imports increased by 177% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $4.8M. From June 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
China Lentil Imports by Country
the United States (387 tons), Turkey (310 tons) and Myanmar (221 tons) were the main suppliers of lentil imports to China.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Turkey (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest lentil suppliers to China were the United States ($416K), Turkey ($333K) and Myanmar ($147K).
In terms of the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +11.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
