U.S. Lubricant Additives Export Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the lubricant additives price per ton amounted to $3.4K (FOB, US), approximately equating the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 20% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3.4K per ton in May 2022, and then reduced modestly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($5.4K per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($2.0K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Lubricant Additives Exports
In June 2022, overseas shipments of prepared additives for mineral oils increased by 16% to 104K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after two months of decline. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5% from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, lubricant additives exports expanded sharply to $352M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +5.1% over the period from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in June 2022.
U.S. Lubricant Additives Exports by Country
Mexico (45K tons) was the main destination for lubricant additives exports from the United States, accounting for a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, lubricant additives exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (8.5K tons), fivefold. China (8K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.7% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Mexico totaled +3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Canada (+3.9% per month) and China (-1.2% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($89M) remains the key foreign market for lubricant additives exports from the United States, comprising 25% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($40M), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Mexico amounted to +5.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Canada (+6.2% per month) and China (+3.6% per month).
