U.S. Magnesite Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the magnesite price per ton stood at $1.6K (CIF, US), increasing by 3.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 375% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2.6K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($4.6K per ton), while the price for Belgium ($881.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Magnesite Imports
Magnesite imports into the United States skyrocketed to 109 tons in August 2022, growing by 18% on the previous month. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 2,477% month-to-month.
In value terms, magnesite imports surged to $179K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, faced a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 1,465% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.8M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Magnesite Imports by Country
China (42 tons), Japan (36 tons) and Belgium (21 tons) were the main suppliers of magnesite imports to the United States, with a combined 91% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 9.2%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +115.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Japan ($61K), China ($53K) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($46K) appeared to be the largest magnesite suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 90% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +109.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
