U.S. Maltodextrine Export Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the maltodextrine price per ton stood at $1.2K (FOB, US), picking up by 12% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average export price increased by 13% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1.4K per ton. From April 2022 to June 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1.7K per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($917.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Maltodextrine Exports
In August 2022, the amount of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup exported from the United States skyrocketed to 29K tons, rising by 71% compared with July 2022 figures. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from January 2022 to August 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +11.5% over the last seven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, exports increased by +70.5% against July 2022 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, maltodextrine exports soared to $31M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from January 2022 to August 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +8.8% over the last seven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, exports increased by +22.6% against March 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 37% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in August 2022.
U.S. Maltodextrine Exports by Country
Mexico (12K tons) was the main destination for maltodextrine exports from the United States, accounting for a 54% share of total exports. Moreover, maltodextrine exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (4K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Canada (2.7K tons), with a 12% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Mexico amounted to +12.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Japan (+36.5% per month) and Canada (-0.8% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($11M), Japan ($5.9M) and Canada ($4.6M) constituted the largest markets for maltodextrine exported from the United States worldwide, together accounting for 78% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Japan, with a CAGR of +34.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, maltodextrine exports dropped to $23M in April 2023.
Fructose exports in July 2023 saw a decrease in value, reaching $67M.
In July 2022, the fructose price per ton amounted to $538, falling by -8.9% against the previous month.
The U.S. remain the leading supplier of lactose and lactose syrup with a 36%-share in the global exports. While the volume of lactose shipments from the U.S. was almost unchanged from the previous year, exports in value terms jumped by 8% to $396, as the average exports price has significantly risen. Despite the trade tensions, China remains the key importer of lactose from the U.S., followed by New Zealand and Japan.

China has extraordinarily increased fructose purchases sixfold, driving out the leading importer, Mexico, from the first to the second place in the global import ranking.
