China Man-Made Filament Yarn Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the man-made filament yarn price amounted to $4,994 per ton (FOB, China), stabilizing at the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 4.8% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $5,505 per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($13.1 per kg), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($2,579 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Man-Made Filament Yarn Exports

In September 2022, overseas shipments of man-made filament yarn decreased by -9.3% to 11K tons, falling for the second consecutive month after three months of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 41% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 16K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, man-made filament yarn exports reduced to $56M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, exports showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 32% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 88K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

It was followed by yarn, (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of artificial filament yarn (including artificial monofilament of less than 67 decitex), n.e.s. in item no. 5403.4, not for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity (42 tons), with a 1.5% share of total exports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of synthetic filament yarn (including synthetic monofilament of less than 67 decitex) n.e.s. in item no. 5402.6, not put up for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity totaled -3.7%.

In value terms, yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of synthetic filament yarn (including synthetic monofilament of less than 67 decitex) n.e.s. in item no. 5402.6, not put up for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity ($13M) emerged as the largest type of man-made filament yarn exported from China, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by yarn, (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of artificial filament yarn (including artificial monofilament of less than 67 decitex), n.e.s. in item no. 5403.4, not for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity ($450K), with a 3.2% share of total exports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of synthetic filament yarn (including synthetic monofilament of less than 67 decitex) n.e.s. in item no. 5402.6, not put up for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity totaled -9.4%.

China Man-Made Filament Yarn Exports by Country

Vietnam (1.5K tons) was the main destination for man-made filament yarn exports from China, with a 14% share of total exports. Moreover, man-made filament yarn exports to Vietnam exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bangladesh (710 tons), twofold. Thailand (699 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.2% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Vietnam totaled -8.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (-6.8% per month) and Thailand (-1.4% per month).

In value terms, the largest markets for man-made filament yarn exported from China were Vietnam ($6.6M), the United States ($4.1M) and Australia ($3.5M), together accounting for 25% of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Turkey, India, Egypt, Pakistan, Mexico, Greece and Nigeria, which together accounted for a further 33%.

Among the main countries of destination, Greece, with a CAGR of +13.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
