U.S. Man-Made Filament Yarn Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the man-made filament yarn price per ton amounted to $7.5K (CIF, US), rising by 22% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $9.1K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Germany ($25.5K per ton), while the price for India ($3.2K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+16.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Man-Made Filament Yarn Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of cellulose acetate (including artificial monofilament of less than 67 decitex), not for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity ($133.2K per ton), while the price for yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of polyesters (including synthetic monofilament of less than 67 decitex), not put up for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity ($4.6K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of synthetic filament yarn (including synthetic monofilament of less than 67 decitex) n.e.s. in item no. 5402.6, not put up for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity (+12.4%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Man-Made Filament Yarn Imports
After five months of growth, supplies from abroad of man-made filament yarn decreased by -4.6% to 1.2K tons in June 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 54% m-o-m.
In value terms, man-made filament yarn imports skyrocketed to $9.2M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from January 2022 to June 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +14.4% over the last five months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.9% against April 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 33% against the previous month. Imports peaked in June 2022.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in yarn, (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of artificial filament yarn (including artificial monofilament of less than 67 decitex), n.e.s. in item no. 5403.4, not for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity (with a CAGR of +460.0%), while purchases for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the most traded types of man-made filament yarn in the United States were man-made filament yarn (other than sewing thread), put up for retail sale ($3.4M), yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of polyesters (including synthetic monofilament of less than 67 decitex), not put up for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity ($3.2M) and yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of nylon or other polyamides (including synthetic monofilament of less than 67 decitex), not put up for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity ($1M), together accounting for 83% of total imports. These products were followed by yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of synthetic filament yarn (including synthetic monofilament of less than 67 decitex) n.e.s. in item no. 5402.6, not put up for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity, yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of viscose rayon (including artificial monofilament of less than 67 decitex), not for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity, yarn, (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of artificial filament yarn (including artificial monofilament of less than 67 decitex), n.e.s. in item no. 5403.4, not for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity and yarn; (not sewing thread), multiple (folded) or cabled, of cellulose acetate (including artificial monofilament of less than 67 decitex), not for retail sale, not textured, not high tenacity, which together accounted for a further 17%.
U.S. Man-Made Filament Yarn Imports by Country
In June 2022, Turkey (797 tons) constituted the largest man-made filament yarn supplier to the United States, with a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, man-made filament yarn imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (110 tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (100 tons), with an 8.1% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at +51.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (+0.3% per month) and China (-1.7% per month).
In value terms, Turkey ($4M) constituted the largest supplier of man-made filament yarn to the United States, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($1.5M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 12% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Turkey stood at +48.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (+35.3% per month) and Mexico (+3.1% per month).
