China Marble And Travertine Blocks Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the marble and travertine blocks price stood at $284 per ton (CIF, China), growing by 2.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 3.5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in September 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Italy ($704 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($114 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Marble And Travertine Blocks Imports
In September 2022, purchases abroad of marble and travertine blocks and slabs decreased by -11.4% to 332K tons for the first time since June 2022, thus ending a two-month rising trend. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when imports increased by 18% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 424K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, marble and travertine blocks imports shrank to $94M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 when imports increased by 11% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 115K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
China Marble And Travertine Blocks Imports by Country
In September 2022, Turkey (175K tons) constituted the largest marble and travertine blocks supplier to China, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, marble and travertine blocks imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (26K tons), sevenfold. Cambodia (26K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.9% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at +2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (+2.6% per month) and Cambodia (+2.9% per month).
In value terms, Turkey ($45M) constituted the largest supplier of marble and travertine blocks to China, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($18M), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Greece, with a 6% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (+6.6% per month) and Greece (+0.5% per month).
