China Mattress Export Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the mattress price stood at $7.8 per unit (FOB, China), declining by -12.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 245% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $15.9 per unit in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($36.9 per unit), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($6.5 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Mattress Export Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics ($8.2 per unit), while the average price for exports of mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics amounted to $7.3 per unit.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics (-2.6%).
China Mattress Exports
In August 2022, shipments abroad of mattresses increased by 16% to 11M units, rising for the second consecutive month after two months of decline. Overall, exports posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 with an increase of 207% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 27M units. From May 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mattress exports rose modestly to $82M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 46% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 102M units in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
China Mattress Exports by Type
Mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics (5.9M units) and mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics (4.7M units) were the main products of mattress exports from China.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics (with a CAGR of +12.9%).
In value terms, mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics ($48M) and mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics ($34M) appeared to be the most exported types of mattresses from China worldwide.
Mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics, with a CAGR of -0.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main product categories over the period under review.
China Mattress Exports by Country
Bangladesh (4M units) was the main destination for mattress exports from China, with a 38% share of total exports. Moreover, mattress exports to Bangladesh exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (1.9M units), twofold. Japan (1.2M units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Bangladesh stood at +155.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the United States (-2.7% per month) and Japan (+2.0% per month).
In value terms, the largest markets for mattress exported from China were Japan ($16M), the United States ($13M) and Australia ($6.9M), with a combined 44% share of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, the UK, Germany, Canada, Qatar and Bangladesh, which together accounted for a further 17%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Qatar, with a CAGR of +24.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
