Memories Prices in the United States

U.S. Memories Import Price in August 2022

In August 2022, the memories price stood at $1.6 per unit (CIF, US), growing by 7.1% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 36% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2.0K per thousand units. From March 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($5.9 per unit), while the price for Canada ($350 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

U.S. Memories Imports

In August 2022, the amount of multichip integrated circuits: memories imported into the United States declined dramatically to 156M units, dropping by -18% compared with the month before. In general, total imports indicated mild growth from January 2022 to August 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.3% against June 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when imports increased by 82% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 190M units, and then contracted rapidly in the following month.

In value terms, memories imports fell to $250M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when imports increased by 41% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $285M, and then fell in the following month.

U.S. Memories Imports by Country

Taiwan (Chinese) (52M units), Singapore (36M units) and China (24M units) were the main suppliers of memories imports to the United States, with a combined 72% share of total imports.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($99M) constituted the largest supplier of memories to the United States, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($36M), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 6.5% share.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Taiwan (Chinese) stood at +2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: South Korea (-6.3% per month) and Singapore (+2.5% per month).
