China Miscellaneous Ferro-Alloys Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the miscellaneous ferro-alloys price stood at $2,352 per ton (CIF, China), with a decrease of -10.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 8.1% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3,284 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Caledonia ($4,132 per ton), while the price for Indonesia amounted to $2,104 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (-1.7%).
China Miscellaneous Ferro-Alloys Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was ferro-alloys; ferro-tungsten and ferro-silico-tungsten ($32.6 per kg), while the price for ferro-alloys; ferro-silico-chromium ($130 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by ferro-alloys; ferro-niobium (+1.5%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Miscellaneous Ferro-Alloys Imports
In September 2022, purchases abroad of miscellaneous ferro-alloys increased by 3.1% to 650K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after two months of decline. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +6.3% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.6% against July 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 with an increase of 65% m-o-m. Imports peaked in September 2022.
In value terms, miscellaneous ferro-alloys imports contracted to $1.5B (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.6% against July 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 41% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 1.7M tons in August 2022, and then dropped in the following month.
China Miscellaneous Ferro-Alloys Imports by Type
In September 2022, ferro-alloys; ferro-nickel (646K tons) was the main type of miscellaneous ferro-alloys supplied to China, with a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by ferro-alloys; ferro-niobium (2.4K tons), with a 0.4% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was taken by ferro-alloys; n.e.s. in heading no. 7202 (1.7K tons), with a 0.3% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of ferro-alloys; ferro-nickel totaled +6.5%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: ferro-alloys; ferro-niobium (+1.9% per month) and ferro-alloys; n.e.s. in heading no. 7202 (-12.3% per month).
In value terms, ferro-alloys; ferro-nickel ($1.5B) constituted the largest type of miscellaneous ferro-alloys supplied to China, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by ferro-alloys; ferro-niobium ($62M), with a 4% share of total imports. It was followed by ferro-alloys; n.e.s. in heading no. 7202, with a 0.5% share.
China Miscellaneous Ferro-Alloys Imports by Country
In September 2022, Indonesia (607K tons) was the main miscellaneous ferro-alloys supplier to China, with a 93% share of total imports. It was followed by New Caledonia (15K tons), with a 2.2% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia amounted to +7.6%.
In value terms, Indonesia ($1.3B) constituted the largest supplier of miscellaneous ferro-alloys to China, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by New Caledonia ($60M), with a 3.9% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Indonesia totaled +5.8%.
