U.S. Molluscs Import Price per Ton in July 2022
In July 2022, the molluscs price per ton amounted to $7.7K (CIF, US), declining by -2.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 3.5% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $8.4K per ton. From April 2022 to July 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($16.6K per ton), while the price for Chile ($2.7K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Molluscs Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) decreased by -1.3% to 9.3K tons, falling for the second consecutive month after two months of growth. Overall, imports showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 8.3% against the previous month.
In value terms, molluscs imports rose to $73M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 9.4% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $115M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Molluscs Imports by Country
Argentina (1.5K tons), China (1.4K tons) and Spain (1.2K tons) were the main suppliers of molluscs imports to the United States, with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by New Zealand, India, Chile, Peru, Taiwan (Chinese), Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Pakistan, which together accounted for a further 51%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the biggest increases were in Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +9.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest molluscs suppliers to the United States were Spain ($14M), Argentina ($9.4M) and China ($8.3M), with a combined 44% share of total imports. Japan, New Zealand, India, Peru, Taiwan (Chinese), Thailand, Vietnam, Chile, Indonesia, the Philippines and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +8.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
