Nail And Bolt Prices in the United States

U.S. Nail And Bolt Import Price per Ton in June 2022

In June 2022, the nail and bolt price per ton stood at $4.7K (CIF, US), therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 2.1% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $4.7K per ton in May 2022, and then reduced slightly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Germany ($9.3K per ton), while the price for China ($2.9K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Nail And Bolt Import Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was aluminium; nails, tacks, staples (other than those of heading no. 8305) screws, bolts, nuts, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers and similar articles ($19.9K per ton), while the price for nails, tacks, drawing pins, corrugated nails, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of iron or steel, with heads of other material or not, but excluding articles with heads of copper ($1.8K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by aluminium; nails, tacks, staples (other than those of heading no. 8305) screws, bolts, nuts, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers and similar articles (+3.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Nail And Bolt Imports

In June 2022, approximately 175K tons of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts were imported into the United States; with a decrease of -4.8% against the previous month. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the period from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 24% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 185K tons. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, nail and bolt imports dropped to $817M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% over the period from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain months. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 26% month-to-month.

U.S. Nail And Bolt Imports by Type

In June 2022, screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel (174K tons) constituted the largest type of nail and bolt supplied to the United States, accounting for a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, nails, tacks, drawing pins, corrugated nails, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of iron or steel, with heads of other material or not, but excluding articles with heads of copper (79K tons), twofold. Nails, tacks, drawing pins, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of copper or iron or steel with heads of copper; screws bolts, nuts, screws hooks, rivets, cotters, washers of copper (949 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 0.4% share.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel amounted to +2.2%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: nails, tacks, drawing pins, corrugated nails, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of iron or steel, with heads of other material or not, but excluding articles with heads of copper (+1.4% per month) and nails, tacks, drawing pins, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of copper or iron or steel with heads of copper; screws bolts, nuts, screws hooks, rivets, cotters, washers of copper (-0.2% per month).

In value terms, screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel ($652M) constituted the largest type of nail and bolt supplied to the United States, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by nails, tacks, drawing pins, corrugated nails, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of iron or steel, with heads of other material or not, but excluding articles with heads of copper ($140M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by nails, tacks, drawing pins, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of copper or iron or steel with heads of copper; screws bolts, nuts, screws hooks, rivets, cotters, washers of copper, with a 1.9% share.

U.S. Nail And Bolt Imports by Country

China (62K tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (61K tons) and Japan (8.6K tons) were the main suppliers of nail and bolt imports to the United States, together comprising 75% of total imports. India, Canada, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +9.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest nail and bolt suppliers to the United States were Taiwan (Chinese) ($258M), China ($177M) and Canada ($47M), with a combined 59% share of total imports. Japan, Germany, South Korea, India, Thailand and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Among the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +11.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
