China Nitrile-Function Compounds Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the nitrile-function compounds price stood at $3,820 per ton (CIF, China), with an increase of 2.4% against the previous month. Over the last eight months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 10% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $3,871 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,485 per ton), while the price for France amounted to $3,395 per ton.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+2.3%).

China Nitrile-Function Compounds Imports

In September 2022, purchases abroad of nitrile-function compounds (excluding acrylonitrile, 1- cyanoguanidine (dicyandiamide)) decreased by -30.7% to 18K tons for the first time since June 2022, thus ending a two-month rising trend. In general, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 102% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 45K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, nitrile-function compounds imports dropped dramatically to $68M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 107% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 144K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

China Nitrile-Function Compounds Imports by Country

In September 2022, the United States (16K tons) constituted the largest supplier of nitrile-function compounds to China, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, nitrile-function compounds imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (1.7K tons), ninefold.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from the United States amounted to -9.2%.

In value terms, the United States ($55M) constituted the largest supplier of nitrile-function compounds to China, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($5.7M), with an 8.3% share of total imports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from the United States totaled -7.4%.
