Non-Knitted Women Apparel Prices in the United States

U.S. Non-Knitted Women Apparel Import Price in June 2022

In June 2022, the average non-knitted women apparel price amounted to $8 per unit, growing by 7.3% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($9.9 per unit), while the price for China ($5.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Non-Knitted Women Apparel Imports

In June 2022, supplies from abroad of women's or girls' clothing (not knitted or crocheted) decreased by -12.5% to 151M units, falling for the third month in a row after three months of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 21% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 202M units. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-knitted women apparel imports declined to $1.2B (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the period from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 28% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.4B. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

U.S. Non-Knitted Women Apparel Imports by Country

In June 2022, China (55M units) constituted the largest non-knitted women apparel supplier to the United States, with a 36% share of total imports. Moreover, non-knitted women apparel imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bangladesh (26M units), twofold. Vietnam (24M units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 16% share.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+0.8% per month) and Vietnam (+0.6% per month).

In value terms, the largest non-knitted women apparel suppliers to the United States were China ($314M), Vietnam ($208M) and Bangladesh ($167M), with a combined 57% share of total imports. India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Cambodia and Sri Lanka lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Sri Lanka, with a CAGR of +4.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
