China Non-Soap Washing and Cleaning Preparations Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the non-soap washing and cleaning preparations price amounted to $1,066 per ton (CIF, China), dropping by -24.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 an increase of 14% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,593 per ton. From July 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($2,032 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($534 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Non-Soap Washing and Cleaning Preparations Import Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was toothpaste, denture cleaners and other dentifrices ($8,699 per ton), while the price for crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes ($667 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by toothpaste (+2.2%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Non-Soap Washing and Cleaning Preparations Imports

In September 2022, overseas purchases of non-soap washing and cleaning preparations increased by 15% to 117K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after three months of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 16% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 123K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-soap washing and cleaning preparations imports shrank to $125M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 166K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

China Non-Soap Washing and Cleaning Preparations Imports by Type

In September 2022, crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes (108K tons) constituted the largest type of non-soap washing and cleaning preparations supplied to China, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, washing and cleaning preparations, surface-active, whether or not containing soap, excluding those used as soap, not put up for retail sale (45K tons), twofold.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes amounted to +1.2%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: washing and cleaning preparations, surface-active, whether or not containing soap, excluding those used as soap, not put up for retail sale (-0.5% per month) and toothpaste, denture cleaners and other dentifrices (-2.5% per month).

In value terms, washing and cleaning preparations, surface-active, whether or not containing soap, excluding those used as soap, not put up for retail sale ($145M) constituted the largest type of non-soap washing and cleaning preparations supplied to China, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes ($72M), with a 31% share of total imports.

China Non-Soap Washing and Cleaning Preparations Imports by Country

In September 2022, Indonesia (55K tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-soap washing and cleaning preparations to China, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, non-soap washing and cleaning preparations imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (26K tons), twofold. Malaysia (7.6K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.5% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia amounted to +4.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Brazil (-2.0% per month) and Malaysia (-0.5% per month).

In value terms, Indonesia ($29M), Brazil ($24M) and South Korea ($6.7M) constituted the largest non-soap washing and cleaning preparations suppliers to China, with a combined 48% share of total imports. Malaysia, France, Spain and Colombia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

France, with a CAGR of +5.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
