U.S. Nutmeg, Mace And Cardamom Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the nutmeg, mace and cardamom price per ton stood at $17.1K (CIF, US), jumping by 75% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated pronounced growth from January 2022 to August 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.8% over the last seven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, nutmeg, mace and cardamom import price increased by +74.8% against July 2022 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($21.8K per ton), while the price for Grenada ($9.9K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Nutmeg, Mace And Cardamom Imports
Nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports into the United States reduced remarkably to 339 tons in August 2022, with a decrease of -20.8% on the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 102% month-to-month.
In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports skyrocketed to $5.8M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, total imports indicated temperate growth from January 2022 to August 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.4% against July 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 106% m-o-m.
U.S. Nutmeg, Mace And Cardamom Imports by Country
In August 2022, Guatemala (179 tons) constituted the largest supplier of nutmeg, mace and cardamom to the United States, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports from Guatemala exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (62 tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Indonesia (37 tons), with an 11% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Guatemala totaled +12.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: India (-9.7% per month) and Indonesia (-12.5% per month).
In value terms, Guatemala ($3.9M) constituted the largest supplier of nutmeg, mace and cardamom to the United States, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($755K), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with an 8.2% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Guatemala amounted to +16.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: India (-9.9% per month) and Indonesia (-9.3% per month).
