U.S. Oils From Coal Tar Export Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the oils from coal tar price per ton stood at $853.8 (FOB, US), with an increase of 16% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +5.4%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In June 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to Egypt ($993.0 per ton) and Thailand ($992.0 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($682.0 per ton) and Argentina ($709.0 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Oils From Coal Tar Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In July 2022, the product with the highest price was oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xylole ($1.8K per ton), while the average price for exports of aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707, of which 65% or more by volume (including losses) distils at 250 degrees celsius by the astm d 86 method ($772.5 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; toluole (+24.9%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Oils From Coal Tar Exports
In July 2022, the amount of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar exported from the United States expanded sharply to 258K tons, picking up by 6.7% compared with the previous month's figure. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when exports increased by 117% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in July 2022.
In value terms, oils from coal tar exports rose rapidly to $234M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when exports increased by 153% against the previous month. The exports peaked in July 2022.
U.S. Oils From Coal Tar Exports by Type
Oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707 (198K tons) was the largest type of oils from coal tar exported from the United States, accounting for a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707 exceeded the volume of the second product type, aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707, of which 65% or more by volume (including losses) distils at 250 degrees celsius by the astm d 86 method (53K tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xylole (5.1K tons), with a 2% share.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707 amounted to -1.7%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707, of which 65% or more by volume (including losses) distils at 250 degrees celsius by the astm d 86 method (+24.6% per month) and oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xylole (+1.3% per month).
In value terms, oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707 ($182M) remains the largest type of oils from coal tar exported from the United States, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707, of which 65% or more by volume (including losses) distils at 250 degrees celsius by the astm d 86 method ($41M), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xylole, with a 4% share.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707 totaled +4.4%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: aromatic hydrocarbon mixtures; n.e.s. in heading no. 2707, of which 65% or more by volume (including losses) distils at 250 degrees celsius by the astm d 86 method (+24.6% per month) and oils and products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar; xylole (+11.9% per month).
U.S. Oils From Coal Tar Exports by Country
India (74K tons) was the main destination for oils from coal tar exports from the United States, with a 31% share of total exports. Moreover, oils from coal tar exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (35K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (31K tons), with a 13% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to India amounted to -11.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Mexico (+13.0% per month) and Thailand (-5.3% per month).
In value terms, India ($63M) remains the key foreign market for oils from coal tar exports from the United States, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($30M), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 12% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to India amounted to -6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Thailand (+5.0% per month) and Mexico (+18.7% per month).
