U.S. Preserved Olive Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the preserved olive price per ton stood at $3.6K (CIF, US), falling by -3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 6.2% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3.7K per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to August 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Greece ($4.6K per ton), while the price for Turkey ($2.1K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Preserved Olive Imports
In August 2022, purchases abroad of olives prepared or preserved decreased by -4% to 13K tons, falling for the second month in a row after two months of growth. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when imports increased by 26% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 15K tons. From July 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved olive imports dropped to $48M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable expansion from January 2022 to August 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports decreased by -14.8% against June 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 31% month-to-month.
U.S. Preserved Olive Imports by Country
Spain (4.9K tons), Greece (4.3K tons) and Morocco (1.3K tons) were the main suppliers of preserved olive imports to the United States, with a combined 78% share of total imports. Portugal, Italy, Egypt and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Portugal (with a CAGR of +25.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Greece ($20M), Spain ($16M) and Italy ($4.3M) were the largest preserved olive suppliers to the United States, together comprising 83% of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Portugal, Egypt and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 15%.
Portugal, with a CAGR of +21.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
