U.S. Optical Fiber, Bundle and Cable Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the optical fiber, bundle and cable price per ton stood at $161.7 (CIF, US), increasing by 11% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a resilient expansion from January 2022 to June 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.8% over the last five months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2022 figures, optical fiber, bundle and cable import price increased by +24.6% against April 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 41% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $209.6 per ton. From April 2022 to June 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($1.6K per ton), while the price for Romania ($15.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Optical Fiber, Bundle and Cable Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was optical fibers and bundles ($173.0 per ton), while the price for optical fiber cables totaled $156.0 per ton.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by optical fiber cables (+4.2%).
U.S. Optical Fiber, Bundle and Cable Imports
In August 2022, the amount of optical fibers, bundles and cables imported into the United States contracted dramatically to 1.9M tons, with a decrease of -30.1% against July 2022 figures. In general, imports, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 52% m-o-m.
In value terms, optical fiber, bundle and cable imports reduced slightly to $306M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from January 2022 to August 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +8.0% over the last seven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports decreased by -3.3% against July 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 33% month-to-month.
U.S. Optical Fiber, Bundle and Cable Imports by Type
In August 2022, optical fiber cables (1.8M tons) was the main type of optical fiber, bundle and cable supplied to the United States, with a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber cables exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, optical fibers and bundles (166K tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of optical fiber cables amounted to +3.6%.
In value terms, optical fiber cables ($277M) constituted the largest type of optical fiber, bundle and cable supplied to the United States, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by optical fibers and bundles ($29M), with a 9.4% share of total imports.
U.S. Optical Fiber, Bundle and Cable Imports by Country
In June 2022, India (1.1M tons) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber, bundle and cable to the United States, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber, bundle and cable imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (278K tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Mexico (117K tons), with a 6.1% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from India stood at +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (-2.5% per month) and Mexico (+9.3% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($190M) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber, bundle and cable to the United States, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($19M), with a 6.2% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 5.3% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Mexico stood at +16.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: India (+3.6% per month) and China (+3.7% per month).
