Optical Fiber Cables Prices in the United States

U.S. Optical Fiber Cables Import Price per Ton in June 2022

In June 2022, the optical fiber cables price per ton stood at $163.5 (CIF, US), rising by 18% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated prominent growth from January 2022 to June 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +6.9% over the last five months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2022 figures, optical fiber cables import price increased by +35.5% against April 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 39% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $200.7 per ton. From April 2022 to June 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($1.6K per ton), while the price for Romania ($15.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

U.S. Optical Fiber Cables Imports

In August 2022, approximately 1.8M tons of optical fiber cables were imported into the United States; which is down by -32.7% compared with the previous month. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 55% against the previous month.

In value terms, optical fiber cables imports dropped modestly to $277M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from January 2022 to August 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +8.0% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports decreased by -4.2% against July 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when imports increased by 37% m-o-m.

U.S. Optical Fiber Cables Imports by Country

In June 2022, India (1.1M tons) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber cables to the United States, with a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber cables imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (278K tons), fourfold. Mexico (117K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.7% share.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from India totaled +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (-2.5% per month) and Mexico (+9.3% per month).

In value terms, Mexico ($190M) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber cables to the United States, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($19M), with a 6.8% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 5.8% share.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Mexico stood at +16.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: India (+4.8% per month) and China (+11.0% per month).
