U.S. Orange Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the orange price per ton amounted to $1.5K (FOB, US), picking up by 8% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 8.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1.5K per ton in March 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Australia ($3.1K per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1.0K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Orange Exports
After five months of decline, shipments abroad of oranges increased by 8.5% to 6.6K tons in August 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when exports increased by 43% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 70K tons. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, orange exports skyrocketed to $9.6M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports, however, faced a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 55% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $108M. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Orange Exports by Country
Mexico (3.1K tons) was the main destination for orange exports from the United States, with a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, orange exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (1.3K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Korea (712 tons), with an 11% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Mexico stood at +2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Canada (-28.4% per month) and South Korea (-33.5% per month).
In value terms, the largest markets for orange exported from the United States were Mexico ($3.1M), Canada ($2.2M) and South Korea ($1.6M), together accounting for 72% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Mexico, with a CAGR of +12.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

February 2023 saw an increase to the orange price, with a 4.5% rise to settle at $1,589 per ton (FOB, US)
In June 2022, the orange price per ton amounted to $1,481 per ton, picking up by 2.1% against the previous month.
In August 2022, the lemon and lime price per ton amounted to $931, picking up by 17% against the previous month.
The lemon price per ton stood at $1,000 (CIF, US) in May 2022, falling by -50.5% against the previous month.
