Organic Surface Active Agent Prices in China

China Organic Surface Active Agent Export Price in December 2021

In December 2021, the organic surface active agent price amounted to $2,041 per ton (FOB, China), growing by 2.8% against the previous month. Over the last eleven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2021 when the average export price increased by 8.5% against the previous month. The export price peaked in December 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($2,530 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($1,546 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Organic Surface Active Agent Export Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was non-ionic surface-active agents (excluding soap) ($2,479 per ton), while the average price for exports of anionic surface-active agents (excluding soap) ($1,628 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: anionic surface-active agents (excl. soap) (+2.6%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Organic Surface Active Agent Exports

Organic surface active agent exports from China expanded notably to 65K tons in December 2021, growing by 6.9% against November 2021 figures. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2021 with an increase of 64% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 69K tons. From April 2021 to December 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, organic surface active agent exports rose sharply to $133M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2021. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9% over the period from January 2021 to December 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2021 when exports increased by 62% against the previous month. The exports peaked in December 2021.

China Organic Surface Active Agent Exports by Type

Non-ionic surface-active agents (excluding soap) (26K tons), anionic surface-active agents (excluding soap) (22K tons) and cationic surface-active agents (excluding soap) (11K tons) were the main products of organic surface active agent exports from China, together comprising 90% of total exports. Organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 10%.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by non-ionic surface-active agents (excl. soap) (with a CAGR of +2.6%), while the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the most traded types of organic surface active agents in China were non-ionic surface-active agents (excluding soap) ($64M), anionic surface-active agents (excluding soap) ($36M) and cationic surface-active agents (excluding soap) ($21M), together comprising 91% of total exports. Organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 9.4%.

Non-ionic surface-active agents (excl. soap), with a CAGR of +4.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Organic Surface Active Agent Exports by Country

Vietnam (5K tons), Indonesia (4.2K tons) and Russia (4.1K tons) were the main destinations of organic surface active agent exports from China, together accounting for 20% of total exports. These countries were followed by Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, the Philippines, Bangladesh, the United States, India, Egypt, Australia and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 35%.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +10.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($11M), Indonesia ($7.2M) and South Korea ($7M) constituted the largest markets for organic surface active agent exported from China worldwide, together accounting for 19% of total exports. These countries were followed by Russia, Japan, the United States, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Australia, which together accounted for a further 35%.

Among the main countries of destination, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +12.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
