China Organic Surface-Active Agents (excl. Soap, Anionic, Cationic, Non-Ionic) Export Price in December 2021

In December 2021, the organic surface-active agents (excl. soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) price amounted to $1,884 per ton (FOB, China), with an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the last eleven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2021 when the average export price increased by 20% against the previous month. The export price peaked in December 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,581 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($635 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Organic Surface-Active Agents (excl. Soap, Anionic, Cationic, Non-Ionic) Exports

Exports of organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) from China was estimated at 6.6K tons in December 2021, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 7.3K tons in January 2021; however, from February 2021 to December 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) rose markedly to $13M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2021 when exports increased by 34% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure in December 2021.

Japan (2.1K tons) was the main destination for exports of organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) from China, with a 32% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (748 tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Australia (516 tons), with a 7.8% share.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Japan stood at +1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+3.9% per month) and Australia (+12.2% per month).

In value terms, Japan ($3.2M) remains the key foreign market for organic surface-active agents (excl. soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) exports from China, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($1.2M), with a 9.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Australia, with a 5.4% share.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly growth rate of value to Japan stood at +3.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+0.5% per month) and Australia (+13.6% per month).
