U.S. Oriented Strandboard (OSB) Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the average oriented strandboard (OSB) import price amounted to $402 per cubic meter, dropping by -2.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 24% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $749 per cubic meter in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to August 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($410 per cubic meter), while the price for Latvia totaled $211 per cubic meter.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (-3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Oriented Strandboard (OSB) Imports
Oriented strandboard (OSB) imports into the United States expanded slightly to 520K cubic meters in August 2022, growing by 2.8% on the previous month's figure. Overall, total imports indicated mild growth from January 2022 to August 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports decreased by -23.7% against March 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 66% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 682K cubic meters. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, oriented strandboard (OSB) imports stood at $209M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 88% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $509M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Oriented Strandboard (OSB) Imports by Country
In August 2022, Canada (501K cubic meters) was the main supplier of oriented strandboard (OSB) to the United States, with a 96% share of total imports. Moreover, oriented strandboard (OSB) imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Latvia (19K cubic meters), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Canada stood at +2.1%.
In value terms, Canada ($205M) constituted the largest supplier of oriented strandboard (OSB) to the United States, comprising 98% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Latvia ($4M), with a 1.9% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Canada totaled -1.8%.
