China Other Carbonates Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the other carbonates price stood at $49.9 per kg (CIF, China), shrinking by -21.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 an increase of 66% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $63.7 per kg in August 2022, and then declined significantly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Chile ($64.8 per kg), while the price for the United States ($410 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+23.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2022, the amount of other carbonates imported into China surged to 15K tons, jumping by 22% on the previous month. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when imports increased by 175% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of 31K tons. From July 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, other carbonates imports reduced modestly to $772M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when imports increased by 357% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.8B. From July 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
China Other Carbonates Imports by Country
In September 2022, Chile (11K tons) constituted the largest other carbonates supplier to China, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, other carbonates imports from Chile exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (1.6K tons), sevenfold. Argentina (1K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.5% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Chile amounted to +2.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (+8.0% per month) and Argentina (+2.5% per month).
In value terms, Chile ($742M) constituted the largest supplier of other carbonates to China, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($21M), with a 2.8% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 0.3% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Chile amounted to +26.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Argentina (+8.8% per month) and South Korea (-7.1% per month).
