China Oxygen-Function Amino-Compound Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the oxygen-function amino-compound price stood at $3,104 per ton (FOB, China), with a decrease of -10.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 12% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $3,813 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,781 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($1,638 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

China Oxygen-Function Amino-Compound Export Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was amino-aldehydes, amino-ketones and amino-quinones; other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function; salts thereof, excluding amfepramone (INN), methadone (INN), and normethadone (INN) and salts thereof ($37.5 per kg), while the average price for exports of diethanolamine and its salts ($1,215 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: amino-aldehydes, amino-ketones and amino-quinones; other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function; salts thereof, excluding amfepramone (INN), methadone (INN), and normethadone (INN) and salts thereof (+6.1%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Oxygen-Function Amino-Compound Exports

In September 2022, after three months of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of oxygen-function amino-compounds, when their volume increased by 2.5% to 86K tons. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 12% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 117K tons. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, oxygen-function amino-compound exports declined to $265M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 21% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 413K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

China Oxygen-Function Amino-Compound Exports by Type

Amino-alcohols, their ethers and esters; (other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function), n.e.s. in item no. October 2922 (7.9K tons) was the largest type of oxygen-function amino-compound exported from China, accounting for a 80% share of total exports. Moreover, amino-alcohols, their ethers and esters; (other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function), n.e.s. in item no. October 2922 exceeded the volume of the second product type, monoethanolamine and its salts (1.7K tons), fivefold. Amino-aldehydes, amino-ketones and amino-quinones; other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function; salts thereof, excluding amfepramone (INN), methadone (INN), and normethadone (INN) and salts thereof (132 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 1.3% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of amino-alcohols, their ethers and esters; (other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function), n.e.s. in item no. October 2922 stood at -3.6%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: monoethanolamine and its salts (-3.4% per month) and amino-aldehydes, amino-ketones and amino-quinones; other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function; salts thereof, excluding amfepramone (INN), methadone (INN), and normethadone (INN) and salts thereof (-11.3% per month).

In value terms, amino-alcohols, their ethers and esters; (other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function), n.e.s. in item no. October 2922 ($39M) emerged as the largest type of oxygen-function amino-compound exported from China, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by amino-aldehydes, amino-ketones and amino-quinones; other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function; salts thereof, excluding amfepramone (INN), methadone (INN), and normethadone (INN) and salts thereof ($5M), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by monoethanolamine and its salts, with a 5.3% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of amino-alcohols, their ethers and esters; (other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function), n.e.s. in item no. October 2922 totaled -5.1%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: amino-aldehydes, amino-ketones and amino-quinones; other than those containing more than one kind of oxygen function; salts thereof, excluding amfepramone (INN), methadone (INN), and normethadone (INN) and salts thereof (-5.9% per month) and monoethanolamine and its salts (-4.5% per month).

China Oxygen-Function Amino-Compound Exports by Country

The Netherlands (11K tons), India (8.9K tons) and the United States (7.6K tons) were the main destinations of oxygen-function amino-compound exports from China, together comprising 32% of total exports. These countries were followed by Russia, Brazil, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Spain, Indonesia, Thailand and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 35%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Indonesia (with a CAGR of +5.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for oxygen-function amino-compound exported from China were India ($41M), the United States ($32M) and the Netherlands ($20M), with a combined 35% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Japan, South Korea, Germany, Russia, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 32%.

Germany, with a CAGR of -2.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
