U.S. Pasta And Couscous Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the pasta and couscous price per ton amounted to $3.6K (CIF, US), increasing by 4.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Italy ($4.4K per ton), while the price for Japan ($2.5K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Pasta And Couscous Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese ($4.4K per ton), while the price for couscous ($2.3K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by couscous (+1.8%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Pasta And Couscous Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of stuffed pasta and couscous decreased by -1.3% to 13K tons, falling for the fourth consecutive month after two months of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 33% m-o-m.
In value terms, pasta and couscous imports expanded to $45M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 35% month-to-month.
U.S. Pasta And Couscous Imports by Type
In August 2022, dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products (9.3K tons) constituted the largest type of pasta and couscous supplied to the United States, with a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese (2.8K tons), threefold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products was relatively modest. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese (+3.3% per month) and couscous (-4.4% per month).
In value terms, dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products ($32M) constituted the largest type of pasta and couscous supplied to the United States, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese ($13M), with a 28% share of total imports.
U.S. Pasta And Couscous Imports by Country
Italy (3.1K tons), South Korea (2K tons) and China (2K tons) were the main suppliers of pasta and couscous imports to the United States, with a combined 56% share of total imports. Canada, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Vietnam (with a CAGR of +8.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest pasta and couscous suppliers to the United States were Italy ($14M), South Korea ($7.2M) and Canada ($5.6M), together comprising 59% of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan, which together accounted for a further 30%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Thailand, with a CAGR of +5.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
