China Photographic Film Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the photographic film price stood at $2.4 per square meter (FOB, China), reducing by -9.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 15% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2.8 per square meter in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($4.5 per square meter), while the average price for exports to Japan ($739 per thousand square meters) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Photographic Film Export Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs ($3.7 per square meter), while the average price for exports of photographic film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed stood at $885 per thousand square meters.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: photographic paper, paperboard and textiles; sensitised, unexposed (+0.4%), while the prices for the other product experienced mixed trend patterns.

China Photographic Film Exports

In September 2022, the amount of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed exported from China rose markedly to 39M square meters, picking up by 8.6% compared with August 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 43% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 47M square meters in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, photographic film exports dropped modestly to $91M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 33% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 113M square meters in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs (19M square meters) and photographic film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed (16M square meters) were the main products of photographic film exports from China.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by photographic film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed (with a CAGR of -2.2%).

In value terms, photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs ($70M) remains the largest type of photographic film exported from China, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by photographic film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed ($14M), with a 17% share of total exports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs amounted to -3.1%.

China Photographic Film Exports by Country

Japan (6.1M square meters), Taiwan (Chinese) (4.7M square meters) and South Korea (3.8M square meters) were the main destinations of photographic film exports from China, together accounting for 38% of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, India, Belgium, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, the Philippines, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Bangladesh, which together accounted for a further 37%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +4.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Korea ($10M), Belgium ($7.9M) and India ($7.3M) appeared to be the largest markets for photographic film exported from China worldwide, together comprising 28% of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Russia, the Netherlands, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 38%.
