China Pineapple Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the pineapple price amounted to $934 per ton (CIF, China), leveling off at the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to September 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 an increase of 9.5% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in September 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($1,294 per ton), while the price for the Philippines totaled $931 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+2.7%).
China Pineapple Imports
In September 2022, after two months of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of pineapples, when their volume decreased by -9.5% to 17K tons. Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 with an increase of 39% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 24K tons. From May 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pineapple imports dropped to $16M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the period from January 2022 to September 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 with an increase of 33% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of $19M. From May 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
China Pineapple Imports by Country
In September 2022, the Philippines (17K tons) was the main pineapple supplier to China, with a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand (161 tons), with a 1% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from the Philippines was relatively modest.
In value terms, the Philippines ($16M) constituted the largest supplier of pineapple to China, comprising 99% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($209K), with a 1.3% share of total imports.
