U.S. Pistachio Export Price per Ton in July 2022
In July 2022, the pistachio price per ton stood at $7.1K (FOB, US), falling by -2.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when the average export price decreased by -1.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $8.3K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to July 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In July 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Lithuania ($8.2K per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($8.1K per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($5.8K per ton) and Turkey ($6.1K per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Pistachio Exports
Pistachio exports from the United States skyrocketed to 22K tons in August 2022, growing by 20% against July 2022 figures. Overall, exports saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 56% month-to-month.
In value terms, pistachio exports skyrocketed to $168M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 with an increase of 49% against the previous month.
U.S. Pistachio Exports by Country
Germany (3K tons), Turkey (2.9K tons) and Belgium (2.1K tons) were the main destinations of pistachio exports from the United States, with a combined 43% share of total exports. China, Hong Kong SAR, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, India, Vietnam, Italy, Lithuania, France, the Netherlands, the UK and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the biggest increases were in Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +290.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for pistachio exported from the United States were Germany ($23M), Turkey ($17M) and Belgium ($12M), with a combined 41% share of total exports. China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Lithuania, Italy, France, the Netherlands, the UK and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.
Among the main countries of destination, Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +257.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
