China Plastic Plate, Sheet, Film, Foil And Strip Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the plastic plate, sheet, film, foil and strip price stood at $3,419 per ton (FOB, China), rising by 1.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 an increase of 2.4% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,419 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($4,850 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($2,805 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was plastics; of acrylic polymers (excluding polymethyl methacrylate), plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials ($6,988 per ton), while the average price for exports of plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of unsaturated polyesters, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials ($2,137 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: plastics; of acrylic polymers (excluding polymethyl methacrylate), plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials (+4.4%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2022, overseas shipments of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip decreased by -4.8% to 282K tons, falling for the third consecutive month after two months of growth. Overall, exports showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 47% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at 327K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip dropped slightly to $964M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 49% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at 1.1M tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Non-cellular polyethylene films, sheets, foil and strip (78K tons), non-cellular polypropylene films, sheets, foil and strip (40K tons) and plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polyethylene terephthalate, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials (40K tons) were the main products of exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip from China, together accounting for 69% of total exports. These products were followed by plastics; polymers of vinyl chloride, containing by weight not less than 6% of plasticisers; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; of acrylic polymers, polymethyl methacrylate, plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, non-cellular polystyrene films, sheets, foil and strip, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polyesters n.e.s. in heading no. 3920, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polycarbonates, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polyamides, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of unsaturated polyesters, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials and plastics; of acrylic polymers (excluding polymethyl methacrylate), plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, which together accounted for a further 31%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by non-cellular polystyrene film (with a CAGR of -0.2%), while the other products experienced a decline.

In value terms, non-cellular polyethylene films, sheets, foil and strip ($281M) remains the largest type of plastic plate, sheet, film, foil and strip exported from China, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polyethylene terephthalate, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials ($122M), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by non-cellular polypropylene films, sheets, foil and strip, with a 15% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of non-cellular polyethylene films, sheets, foil and strip was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polyethylene terephthalate, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials (-1.4% per month) and non-cellular polypropylene films, sheets, foil and strip (-1.5% per month).

Vietnam (28K tons), India (16K tons) and the Philippines (15K tons) were the main destinations of exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip from China, together accounting for 21% of total exports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in the Philippines (with a CAGR of +4.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($100M), South Korea ($56M) and the United States ($56M) were the largest markets for plastic plate, sheet, film, foil and strip exported from China worldwide, together comprising 22% of total exports. India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Russia, Taiwan (Chinese), Mexico and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

the Philippines, with a CAGR of +5.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
