U.S. Plastic Plate, Sheet, Film, Foil And Strip Export Price per Ton in August 2022

In August 2022, the plastic plate, sheet, film, foil and strip price per ton amounted to $6.2K (FOB, US), rising by 5.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 10% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $6.2K per ton in June 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($19.5K per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($1.2K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Plastic Plate, Sheet, Film, Foil And Strip Export Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of amino-resins, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials ($45.2K per ton), while the average price for exports of plastics; of acrylic polymers (excluding polymethyl methacrylate), plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials ($3.5K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of phenolic resins, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials (+9.4%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Plastic Plate, Sheet, Film, Foil And Strip Exports

In August 2022, shipments abroad of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip increased by less than 0.1% to 86K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 12% against the previous month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 90K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip rose remarkably to $533M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 23% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $558M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Plastics; of acrylic polymers (excluding polymethyl methacrylate), plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polyvinyl butyral, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polycarbonates, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of regenerated cellulose; non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polyamides, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of cellulose derivatives n.e.s. in heading no. 3920, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of unsaturated polyesters, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of cellulose acetate, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of phenolic resins, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials and plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of amino-resins, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polyamides, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials (with a CAGR of +8.9%), while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of plastics n.e.s. in heading no. 3920, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials ($135M) emerged as the largest type of plastic plate, sheet, film, foil and strip exported from the United States, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by plastics; polymers of vinyl chloride,containing by weight, less than 6% of plasticisers; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials ($33M), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polycarbonates, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials, with a 4.6% share.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of plastics n.e.s. in heading no. 3920, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials stood at +2.8%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: plastics; polymers of vinyl chloride,containing by weight, less than 6% of plasticisers; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials (+3.6% per month) and plastics; plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of polycarbonates, non-cellular and not reinforced, laminated, supported or similarly combined with other materials (+1.6% per month).

U.S. Plastic Plate, Sheet, Film, Foil And Strip Exports by Country

Canada (31K tons), Mexico (22K tons) and India (5.5K tons) were the main destinations of exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip from the United States, with a combined 68% share of total exports. China, Malaysia, Belgium, Hong Kong SAR, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, Japan and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Malaysia (with a CAGR of +9.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for plastic plate, sheet, film, foil and strip exported from the United States were Canada ($148M), Mexico ($121M) and China ($51M), with a combined 60% share of total exports.
