U.S. Plastics Pipe And Pipe Fitting Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the plastics pipe and pipe fitting price per ton stood at $5.5K (CIF, US), surging by 4.5% against the previous month. Over the last five months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 an increase of 16% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6.0K per ton. From March 2022 to June 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Germany ($16.4K per ton), while the price for the Dominican Republic ($2.5K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Plastics Pipe And Pipe Fitting Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In July 2022, the product with the highest price was plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses ($8.7K per ton), while the price for rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of ethylene ($2.6K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by propylene polymer rigid pipes (+3.8%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2022, plastics pipe and pipe fitting imports into the United States reached 28K tons, with an increase of 2.8% against the previous month. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +4.2% from January 2022 to July 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 36% month-to-month.
In value terms, plastics pipe and pipe fitting imports reduced slightly to $145M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.4% from January 2022 to July 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 28% m-o-m.
U.S. Plastics Pipe And Pipe Fitting Imports by Type
Rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of ethylene (9.1K tons), plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses (8.6K tons) and rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of vinyl chloride (6.1K tons) were the main products of plastics pipe and pipe fitting imports to the United States, with a combined 86% share of total imports. Rigid tubes, pipes and hoses, of other polymers and rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of propylene lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by ethylene polymer rigid pipes (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while imports for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, plastic fittings for tubes, pipes and hoses ($75M) constituted the largest type of plastics pipe and pipe fitting supplied to the United States, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of ethylene ($24M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by rigid tubes, pipes and hoses of polymers of vinyl chloride, with a 16% share.
U.S. Plastics Pipe And Pipe Fitting Imports by Country
Mexico (8.8K tons), Canada (8K tons) and China (3.2K tons) were the main suppliers of plastics pipe and pipe fitting imports to the United States, together comprising 74% of total imports. Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese) and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.2%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +22.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plastics pipe and pipe fitting suppliers to the United States were Canada ($46M), Mexico ($29M) and China ($19M), together accounting for 63% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), Vietnam, India and the Dominican Republic, which together accounted for a further 13%.
Among the main suppliers, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +21.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
