U.S. Polyethylene Binder Import Price per Ton in May 2022
In May 2022, the polyethylene binder price per ton stood at $2.7K (CIF, US), dropping by -2.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 3.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $2.8K per ton in April 2022, and then declined slightly in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from Turkey ($3.0K per ton) and Israel ($3.0K per ton), while the price for China ($2.3K per ton) and Vietnam ($2.5K per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Polyethylene Binder Imports
For the third consecutive month, the United States recorded decline in purchases abroad of polyethylene or polypropylene binder or baler (agricultural) twines, which decreased by -35.3% to 1.6K tons in June 2022. Overall, imports saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 19% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.5K tons. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polyethylene binder imports reduced notably to $4.7M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. In general, imports faced a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 23% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $12M. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Polyethylene Binder Imports by Country
Portugal (1.2K tons), Vietnam (896 tons) and Costa Rica (133 tons) were the main suppliers of polyethylene binder imports to the United States, with a combined 89% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, China, Israel and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 8.9%.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +31.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Portugal ($3.4M), Vietnam ($2.2M) and Turkey ($371K) constituted the largest polyethylene binder suppliers to the United States, with a combined 89% share of total imports.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +30.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
