China Polymers Of Propylene Or Of Other Olefins, In Primary Forms (Excluding Polypropylene) Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the polymers of propylene or of other olefins, in primary forms (excluding polypropylene) price amounted to $1,449 per ton (CIF, China), with a decrease of -10.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 8.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,887 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($3,489 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($981 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

For the third consecutive month, China recorded growth in supplies from abroad of polymers of propylene or of other olefins, in primary forms (excluding polypropylene), which increased by 26% to 187K tons in September 2022. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the period from January 2022 to September 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of polymers of propylene or of other olefins, in primary forms (excluding polypropylene) rose remarkably to $271M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 18% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $283M. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

South Korea (52K tons), Singapore (34K tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (29K tons) were the main suppliers of imports of polymers of propylene or of other olefins, in primary forms (excluding polypropylene) to China, with a combined 61% share of total imports. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Japan and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +17.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($62M), Singapore ($56M) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($34M) constituted the largest polymers of propylene or of other olefins, in primary forms (excluding polypropylene) suppliers to China, with a combined 56% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Saudi Arabia, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 26%.
Among the main suppliers, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
