U.S. Polypropylene in Primary Forms Export Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the polypropylene in primary forms price per ton amounted to $2.4K (FOB, US), with a decrease of -1.9% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 4.9% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2.4K per ton, and then shrank in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Spain ($2.8K per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($855.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Polypropylene in Primary Forms Exports
After four months of decline, shipments abroad of polypropylene in primary forms increased by 4.8% to 73K tons in August 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 21% against the previous month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 91K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms exports reduced slightly to $155M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 24% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $206M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Polypropylene in Primary Forms Exports by Country
Mexico (35K tons), Canada (24K tons) and Spain (1.8K tons) were the main destinations of polypropylene in primary forms exports from the United States, together accounting for 83% of total exports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +30.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($83M), Canada ($58M) and Spain ($5M) were the largest markets for polypropylene in primary forms exported from the United States worldwide, together accounting for 84% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Spain, with a CAGR of +37.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
