China Polyurethane Cellular Plates, Sheets and Films Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the polyurethane cellular plates, sheets and films price stood at $7,269 per ton (FOB, China), with an increase of 2.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 9.9% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $7,881 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($13.4 per kg), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($1,270 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2022, overseas shipments of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of polyurethanes decreased by -6.1% to 8.4K tons, falling for the second month in a row after three months of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 58% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at 11K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of polyurethanes dropped to $61M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 74% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at 75K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Vietnam (1.8K tons) was the main destination for exports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of polyurethanes from China, accounting for a 21% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of polyurethanes to Vietnam exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (790 tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Thailand (602 tons), with a 7.2% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Vietnam totaled +1.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Indonesia (-5.5% per month) and Thailand (+3.0% per month).

In value terms, Vietnam ($13M) remains the key foreign market for polyurethane cellular plates, sheets and films exports from China, comprising 21% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($4.6M), with a 7.6% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6.8% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Vietnam was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Thailand (+5.7% per month) and the United States (+5.1% per month).
