China Potassic Fertilizer Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the potassic fertilizer price amounted to $610 per ton (CIF, China), remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a strong expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +8.2% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, potassic fertilizer import price increased by +87.2% against January 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 an increase of 33% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in September 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Canada ($645 per ton) and Russia ($609 per ton), while the price for Lao People's Democratic Republic ($568 per ton) and Belarus ($585 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Potassic Fertilizer Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was potassium sulphate (SOP) ($622 per ton), while the price for potassium chloride (MOP) totaled $610 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by potassium chloride (MOP) (+8.2%).
China Potassic Fertilizer Imports
In September 2022, after three months of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of potassic fertilizers, when their volume decreased by -14.4% to 659K tons. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 28% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 823K tons. From May 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, potassic fertilizer imports reduced to $402M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +7.3% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports decreased by -14.2% against August 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 50% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 469K tons in August 2022, and then declined in the following month.
China Potassic Fertilizer Imports by Type
In September 2022, potassium chloride (MOP) (651K tons) was the main type of potassic fertilizer supplied to China, accounting for a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by potassium sulphate (SOP) (7.4K tons), with a 1.1% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of potassium chloride (MOP) was relatively modest.
In value terms, potassium chloride (MOP) ($397M) constituted the largest type of potassic fertilizer supplied to China, comprising 99% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by potassium sulphate (SOP) ($4.6M), with a 1.1% share of total imports.
China Potassic Fertilizer Imports by Country
Canada (224K tons), Belarus (172K tons) and Russia (101K tons) were the main suppliers of potassic fertilizer imports to China, together accounting for 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Jordan, Israel and Lao People's Democratic Republic, which together accounted for a further 23%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Jordan (with a CAGR of +23.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest potassic fertilizer suppliers to China were Canada ($144M), Belarus ($101M) and Russia ($62M), with a combined 76% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Jordan, Israel and Lao People's Democratic Republic, which together accounted for a further 22%.
Jordan, with a CAGR of +37.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
