U.S. Prepared Frozen Vegetable Import Price per Ton in February 2022
In February 2022, the prepared frozen vegetable price per ton amounted to $1.4K (CIF, US), flattening at the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2021 when the average import price increased by 2.3% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1.4K per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to February 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2022, the country with the highest price was Honduras ($4.4K per ton), while the price for China ($1.1K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to February 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Prepared Frozen Vegetable Imports
For the third month in a row, the United States recorded decline in overseas purchases of frozen vegetables and mixtures of vegetables (prepared or preserved), which decreased by -0.2% to 860 tons in August 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2021 when imports increased by 39% against the previous month.
In value terms, prepared frozen vegetable imports rose notably to $2M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2021 when imports increased by 39% against the previous month.
U.S. Prepared Frozen Vegetable Imports by Country
In February 2022, Mexico (3.4K tons) constituted the largest prepared frozen vegetable supplier to the United States, accounting for a 18% share of total imports. Moreover, prepared frozen vegetable imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (1.7K tons), twofold. China (1K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.5% share.
From January 2021 to February 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico stood at +1.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (-4.6% per month) and China (+5.0% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($8.1M) constituted the largest supplier of prepared frozen vegetable to the United States, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($3.4M), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 13% share.
From January 2021 to February 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Mexico was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (-5.6% per month) and France (+1.3% per month).
