U.S. Prepared Or Preserved Crab Meat Import Price per Ton in August 2022

In August 2022, the prepared or preserved crab meat price per ton amounted to $24.1K (CIF, US), dropping by -9.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 1.8% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $31.3K per ton. From April 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($31.1K per ton), while the price for South Korea ($14.5K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

U.S. Prepared Or Preserved Crab Meat Imports

In August 2022, supplies from abroad of prepared or preserved crab meat was finally on the rise to reach 2.7K tons after two months of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced reduction.

In value terms, prepared or preserved crab meat imports rose to $64M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 8.6% month-to-month.

U.S. Prepared Or Preserved Crab Meat Imports by Country

In August 2022, Indonesia (828 tons) constituted the largest supplier of prepared or preserved crab meat to the United States, accounting for a 31% share of total imports. Moreover, prepared or preserved crab meat imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (386 tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Venezuela (241 tons), with a 9% share.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia totaled -6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-2.1% per month) and Venezuela (+5.9% per month).

In value terms, Indonesia ($23M) constituted the largest supplier of prepared or preserved crab meat to the United States, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($7.2M), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 10% share.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Indonesia stood at -10.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: the Philippines (-6.6% per month) and China (-6.1% per month).
