U.S. Preserved Cows Meat Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the preserved cows meat price per ton amounted to $9.7K (CIF, US), falling by -5.3% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $10.4K per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to August 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($13.2K per ton), while the price for Mexico ($4.8K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Preserved Cows Meat Imports
In August 2022, overseas purchases of prepared or preserved meat or offal of bovine animals decreased by -1.4% to 6.2K tons, falling for the fourth month in a row after two months of growth. In general, imports recorded a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 30% month-to-month.
In value terms, preserved cows meat imports reduced to $60M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 51% m-o-m.
U.S. Preserved Cows Meat Imports by Country
In August 2022, Brazil (4.2K tons) constituted the largest supplier of preserved cows meat to the United States, accounting for a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved cows meat imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uruguay (773 tons), fivefold. Canada (631 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Brazil was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Uruguay (-5.9% per month) and Canada (-2.0% per month).
In value terms, Brazil ($43M) constituted the largest supplier of preserved cows meat to the United States, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($6.4M), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Uruguay, with a 9.9% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Brazil amounted to +1.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+1.4% per month) and Uruguay (-5.0% per month).
