U.S. Preserved Fish Fillet Import Price per Ton in May 2022
In May 2022, the preserved fish fillet price per ton amounted to $5.4K (CIF, US), which is down by -11.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 an increase of 43% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7.5K per ton. From April 2022 to May 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($12.8K per ton), while the price for South Korea ($1.3K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Preserved Fish Fillet Imports
In August 2022, overseas purchases of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) were finally on the rise to reach 1.4K tons after two months of decline. Overall, imports posted notable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 when imports increased by 215% month-to-month.
In value terms, preserved fish fillet imports surged to $8.3M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when imports increased by 152% against the previous month.
U.S. Preserved Fish Fillet Imports by Country
In May 2022, China (1.4K tons) constituted the largest preserved fish fillet supplier to the United States, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved fish fillet imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (103 tons), more than tenfold. South Korea (85 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.1% share.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +15.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (-2.8% per month) and South Korea (+13.1% per month).
In value terms, China ($6.6M) constituted the largest supplier of preserved fish fillet to the United States, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($1.3M), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Norway, with a 3.6% share.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from China amounted to +19.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+0.0% per month) and Norway (+8.0% per month).
