U.S. Preserved Swine Meat Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the preserved swine meat price per ton amounted to $6.3K (CIF, US), with an increase of 1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 11% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6.3K per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($8.2K per ton), while the price for Mexico ($3.3K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Preserved Swine Meat Imports
In August 2022, the amount of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat imported into the United States surged to 2.3K tons, with an increase of 40% against the previous month. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, preserved swine meat imports surged to $14M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
U.S. Preserved Swine Meat Imports by Country
Canada (1.3K tons), Poland (703 tons) and Italy (148 tons) were the main suppliers of preserved swine meat imports to the United States, together accounting for 95% of total imports. These countries were followed by Mexico, which accounted for a further 4.8%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Mexico (with a CAGR of +18.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($9.3M) constituted the largest supplier of preserved swine meat to the United States, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($3.5M), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.4% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Canada stood at +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Poland (-0.7% per month) and Italy (+9.0% per month).
