China Pulp From Fibres Other Than Wood Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the pulp from fibres other than wood price amounted to $2,176 per ton (FOB, China), shrinking by -3.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 4.9% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,260 per ton, and then contracted slightly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($2,609 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($1,100 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Pulp From Fibres Other Than Wood Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was pulp; of fibrous cellulosic material (other than wood or cotton linters pulp), mechanical ($3,084 per ton), while the average price for exports of pulp; of bamboo ($1,032 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: pulp; of fibrous cellulosic material (other than wood or cotton linters pulp), mechanical (+10.8%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Pulp From Fibres Other Than Wood Exports
In September 2022, after two months of decline, there was growth in overseas shipments of pulp from fibres other than wood, when their volume increased by 4.4% to 7.3K tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 21% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 8.8K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of pulp from fibres other than wood reached $16M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 when exports increased by 21% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 19K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
China Pulp From Fibres Other Than Wood Exports by Type
Pulp; cotton linters pulp (6.6K tons) was the largest type of pulp from fibres other than wood exported from China, with a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, pulp; cotton linters pulp exceeded the volume of the second product type, pulp; of bamboo (535 tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by pulp; of fibrous cellulosic material (other than wood or cotton linters pulp), chemical (219 tons), with a 3% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of pulp; cotton linters pulp stood at -2.2%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: pulp; of bamboo (-3.8% per month) and pulp; of fibrous cellulosic material (other than wood or cotton linters pulp), chemical (+5.1% per month).
In value terms, pulp; cotton linters pulp ($15M) remains the largest type of pulp from fibres other than wood exported from China, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by pulp; of bamboo ($552K), with a 3.5% share of total exports. It was followed by pulp; of fibrous cellulosic material (other than wood or cotton linters pulp), chemical, with a 1.7% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of pulp; cotton linters pulp stood at -2.2%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: pulp; of bamboo (-2.3% per month) and pulp; of fibrous cellulosic material (other than wood or cotton linters pulp), chemical (+5.7% per month).
China Pulp From Fibres Other Than Wood Exports by Country
The Netherlands (1.2K tons), Japan (1.2K tons) and South Korea (944 tons) were the main destinations of exports of pulp from fibres other than wood from China, together comprising 47% of total exports. Indonesia, Belgium, the United States, Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, Brazil, Sweden, France and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +24.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for pulp from fibres other than wood exported from China were the Netherlands ($3.2M), Japan ($3.2M) and South Korea ($1.9M), together accounting for 52% of total exports. Belgium, Indonesia, the United States, Thailand, France, Brazil, Sweden, Vietnam, South Africa and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Sweden, with a CAGR of +26.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
