U.S. Pyrethrum and Peppermint Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the pyrethrum and peppermint price per ton stood at $6.0K (CIF, US), dropping by -2.1% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 18% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6.1K per ton, and then shrank slightly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Germany ($11.5K per ton), while the price for Morocco ($2.3K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Pyrethrum and Peppermint Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of pyrethrum and peppermint decreased by -8% to 6.5K tons, falling for the fourth consecutive month after two months of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 32% against the previous month.
In value terms, pyrethrum and peppermint imports reduced to $39M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 36% m-o-m.
U.S. Pyrethrum and Peppermint Imports by Country
India (1.8K tons), Mexico (1.1K tons) and Egypt (458 tons) were the main suppliers of pyrethrum and peppermint imports to the United States, together accounting for 51% of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Colombia, Germany, Indonesia, Nigeria, Albania, Turkey, Morocco and Chile, which together accounted for a further 36%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +34.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($11M) constituted the largest supplier of pyrethrum and peppermint to the United States, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($3.4M), with an 8.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with an 8% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from India totaled -1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (+7.7% per month) and Mexico (-5.9% per month).
