U.S. Rabbit Meat Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the rabbit meat price per ton stood at $3.8K (CIF, US), declining by -6.4% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 an increase of 49% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $5.1K per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to August 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Spain ($7.4K per ton), while the price for Canada ($2.1K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Rabbit Meat Imports
In August 2022, approximately 145 tons of rabbit or hare meat were imported into the United States; picking up by 6.2% on the month before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a measured increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 290% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 187 tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rabbit meat imports contracted modestly to $556K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 231% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $775K. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Rabbit Meat Imports by Country
Hungary (62 tons), Spain (38 tons) and Canada (24 tons) were the main suppliers of rabbit meat imports to the United States, together comprising 85% of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +44.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest rabbit meat suppliers to the United States were Spain ($281K), Hungary ($145K) and France ($82K), together accounting for 91% of total imports.
Spain, with a CAGR of +30.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
