U.S. Radio Receiver Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the radio receiver price stood at $77 per unit (CIF, US), dropping by -6.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $90 per unit in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to August 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($479 per unit), while the price for China ($18 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Radio Receiver Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus ($106 per unit), while the price for radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; not combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus but combined with a clock ($19 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; not combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus but combined with a clock (+5.6%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Radio Receiver Imports
In August 2022, purchases abroad of radio receivers was finally on the rise to reach 4.6M units after two months of decline. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when imports increased by 41% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.6M units; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2022.
In value terms, radio receiver imports expanded sharply to $357M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in August 2022.
U.S. Radio Receiver Imports by Type
In August 2022, radio (telephony, telegraphy, broadcast) broadcast receivers; apparatus (other than pocket-size radio cassette-players), combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus, not needing external power (721K units) constituted the largest type of radio receiver supplied to the United States, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, radio (telephony, telegraphy, broadcast) broadcast receivers; apparatus (other than pocket-size radio cassette-players), combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus, not needing external power exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; not combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus but combined with a clock (311K units), twofold. Radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; not combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus and not combined with a clock (281K units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 19% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of radio (telephony, telegraphy, broadcast) broadcast receivers; apparatus (other than pocket-size radio cassette-players), combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus, not needing external power stood at +1.9%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; not combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus but combined with a clock (+3.1% per month) and radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; not combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus and not combined with a clock (-1.7% per month).
In value terms, the most traded types of radio receivers in the United States were radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus ($21M), radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; not combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus and not combined with a clock ($20M) and radio (telephony, telegraphy, broadcast) broadcast receivers; apparatus (other than pocket-size radio cassette-players), combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus, not needing external power ($17M), together comprising 91% of total imports. Radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; not combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus but combined with a clock lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 9.2%.
U.S. Radio Receiver Imports by Country
In August 2022, China (3.2M units) constituted the largest radio receiver supplier to the United States, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, radio receiver imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (637K units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (310K units), with a 6.7% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (+3.5% per month) and Thailand (+3.1% per month).
In value terms, the largest radio receiver suppliers to the United States were Mexico ($134M), Thailand ($68M) and China ($59M), together accounting for 73% of total imports. South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
In terms of the main suppliers, South Korea, with a CAGR of +6.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
