U.S. Rape And Colza Seed Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the rape and colza seed price per ton stood at $430.1 (CIF, US), declining by -11.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 54% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $884.4 per ton. From March 2022 to June 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Argentina ($803.0 per ton), while the price for Canada ($408.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Rape And Colza Seed Imports
After two months of growth, supplies from abroad of rape or colza seed decreased by -76% to 35K tons in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 87% month-to-month.
In value terms, rape and colza seed imports contracted sharply to $22M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when imports increased by 71% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $66M. From May 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In June 2022, Canada (93K tons) was the main supplier of rape and colza seed to the United States, with a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, rape and colza seed imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uruguay (3.2K tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Canada stood at +28.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Uruguay (+34.1% per month) and Argentina (+22.7% per month).
In value terms, Canada ($38M) constituted the largest supplier of rape and colza seed to the United States, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($2.2M), with a 5.2% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Canada stood at +19.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Argentina (+23.3% per month) and Uruguay (+27.4% per month).
