U.S. Refined Olive Oil Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the refined olive oil price per ton stood at $3.9K (CIF, US), stabilizing at the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 8.9% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $4.1K per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to August 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from Italy ($4.6K per ton) and Spain ($3.8K per ton), while the price for Turkey ($3.3K per ton) and Tunisia ($3.7K per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Refined Olive Oil Imports
After two months of decline, overseas purchases of refined olive oil increased by 22% to 13K tons in August 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from January 2022 to August 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +5.9% over the last seven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.7% against July 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 35% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 15K tons. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, refined olive oil imports soared to $49M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from January 2022 to August 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +7.9% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.4% against July 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 with an increase of 32% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $58M. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Refined Olive Oil Imports by Country
In August 2022, Spain (6K tons) constituted the largest refined olive oil supplier to the United States, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, refined olive oil imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (2.6K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (2.3K tons), with an 18% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Spain stood at +7.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Turkey (+8.2% per month) and Italy (-1.9% per month).
In value terms, Spain ($23M) constituted the largest supplier of refined olive oil to the United States, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($11M), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with an 18% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Spain totaled +11.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (+0.7% per month) and Turkey (+8.3% per month).
